Excerpt from The Chaplains and Clergy of the Revolution

IN writing the biographies of the chaplains and clergy men who bore a prominent part in our revolutionary struggle, I have thought proper to devote a few pages at the outset to the influence of the pulpit as an institution. In New England especially, which inaugurated the rebel lion, and on which fell so heavily the burden of carrying it forward, the pulpit was a recognized power in the State, and its aid formally and earnestly invoked.

Great book! American Christians and the vast majority of patriotic American citizens today have no idea how Chaplains, pastors and Christian leaders influenced the American Revolution. They were its leaders! Today, the clergy has been intimidated by the modern press and the leftist agenda to stay out of politics and government. The Revolutionary forefather Chaplains RAN IT! The American Revolution was fostered and bred by the Bible-believing pulpits of this land! It was the chaplains and clergy who trained the American people to defend their God-given rights. They even led on the battlefield! How we need to get back to these sacred roots! Great book! Convicting book! Gives us back our spiritual,, moral and patriotic DNA!

Interesting book. Enjoying it as a piece of history.
Firstly, you should be forewarned that this book is a reprint - that fact makes it amazing because you are reading what is essentially an original document without paying a billion dollars for it. But the downside is that some of the small print is hard to read (I just skip it), and some of the formatting is inconsistent. (An upside of this is that there a large margins to write notes in.)
This book is a must-read for history lovers. It gives in-depth sketches of different people of faith who where involved in the American Revolution. It is not written like a modern-day history book, with only facts and dates. Nor is it written like a historical fiction novel - with interesting, but untrue story. Rather it tells compelling, interesting, surprising, captivating stories from the Revolution. The writing is skilled and interesting to read, and the facts are obtained from original documents, and decedents of the characters.
THIS IS A COLLECTION OF SKETCHES - it's not a novel. But it is nonetheless very interesting and TRUE. I'd recommend for anybody who loves history.
This is an incredibly poor quality edition of this book. The contents of the book don't matter because this version is so badly made that it's unreadable. DO NOT BUY THIS. I returned it as soon as I received my copy and realized how useless it was.
i have not finished the book yet, but what i have read gives you a view into the people and events
that formed our nation based on religion and freedom. being a reanactor for over 10 years of
the rev war period i enjoyed the journal experinces of chaplins not only fighting along side the common
soldiers but the fact that they lived and told how it was on the field of battle . ministering to the
sick and wounded , as well as the fact that the break from great britian was a break from the church
of england not just about taxes. revolution was preached from the pulpit and was based on the
bible. men of courage and valor and christan princeables.
This book is exactly as described by the author, legible and easy to read. While nearly all of the content supplied is available free on Google ebooks and , this is the only collection available in print.

If, like me, you prefer to have a printed book in your hand verses an e-reader or laptop then you too will find this a convenient reference in your library. My copy is highlighted with notes in the margins, as are all of the references in my library.

Though, I did not hesitate to buy this book, I gave this a three-star rating because of the sale price.
